Roles

What is my role as a Christian?

  • Saint
  • Brethren
  • Joint-Heirs with Christ
  • Children of God
  • Servant
  • Friend of God

Yes, we are all of these.
Saint and Brethren
Paul called the Christians at Philippi both. Philippians 4:21
But the way it is phrased leaves no room for debate. All Christians are saints. And it does not mean the Catholic version of sainthood. All Christians are saints so we must act like it. A saint is a person of exceptional holiness or goodness.
The way we do this is humble ourselves to God and let His Holy Spirit takeover. This is one facet of our relationship with Christ.
Over 200 times in the New Testament alone we are called brethren. This is the relationship we are to have with each other.
Example: 1 Peter 3:8 tells us to love as brethren. Look for every occurrence and you will find we are one big family of siblings. That 75 year old saint she is my older sister. That 16 year old saint she is my younger sister. So why do we attack each other when we are all family of God. We are to love and care for each other. I do admit some saints I don't like because of their actions BUT I still love them and I pray for them. I cannot wait to see God work wonders in them. If He can change Saul into older brother Apostle Paul....
This same older brother tells us we are joint-heirs a.k.a. brother and sisters of Jesus Christ. Romans 8:17
Yet another facet of our relationship with Christ.
We are His saints through His Holy Spirit.
We are His brother through salvation.
Salvation we can obtain through his death on the cross.
We can then turn to the Battitudes, which open the sermon on the mount and find we are the children of God. (side note it means we are to be peacemakers but that is another lesson) Matthew 5:9
This is repeated again in Matthew 5:45 like the previous verse there is a lot more to it. Take time and study this passage fully. Again this is another facet of our relationship with Him.
We are His saint through the Holy Spirit.
We are His brothers and sisters through salvation. Salvation we can obtain because of His death on the cross.
And we are God's children through being His son's brethren.
We are also Christ's servant. Look at Romans 1:1. Paul called himself a servant of Jesus Christ. We have a choice we can live in slavery and follow the world or we can have a wonderful master like Paul. Paul's master is the King of Kings who laid down His life for a friend. Yes He is our Master and Friend. these are two more facets of our relationship with Christ. Servanthood is us humbling our self to Christ and obeying Him. Yes, He is our Brother and Friend, but He is also the King of Kings.
Revelation 17:14
Many Christians forget this portion of our relationship and only focus on Brother and Friend.
The final facet of our relationship is Friend. James 2:23; 4:4 Again we have a choice friend of the world is an enemy of God. Friend of God is wonderful and a bonus of eternal life.
So we are brethren with each other. We are to love as brethren.
We are saints of God through the Holy Spirit.
We are Joint-Heirs with Christ through salvation.
We can obtain salvation because of Christ's death and shedding of blood on the cross.
We are children of God through belief in Christ Jesus.
We are servant to Jesus Christ who is the King of King and Lord of Lords.
We are also a Friend of God.
We are all these things because of the Lamb that was slain a.k.a. Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit is all these things. How is your relationship with the Godhead and each other.

LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, and SELF-CONTROL.
