Renewal

Thursday evening at our monthly Women of Purpose meeting Sister Denise was the speaker. She told us that God had impressed on her at work one day that His people needed to be renewed. When thinking about the word renew many ideas come to mind; a renewed mind, heart, spirit, etc. With renewal it requires us to first clean out all the sins that have bogged down our hearts and restore within ourselves a right spirit with God. When David wrote Psalm he touched on this very subject, he being a man from God’s own heart and a man of many sins knew what it meant to ask for forgiveness. Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. - Psalm 51:10 (KJV)

There are some out there telling people that they don’t have to repent for their sins and not to take a side on the Baptist/ Pentecostal debate on Salvation I fully recommend one to take advantage of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and approach His throne boldly asking forgiveness for one’s sins. When Jesus died on the cross He made atonement for our sins and keeps us in the modern era from having to sacrifice animals. The shedding of His blood rent the veil that separated us from God which allows us to be able to contact Him personally and have a close relationship. There in my mind would be no other reason why the Bible would instruct us to pray without ceasing. As much as we would all like to deny our sinfulness, it is there we are flesh and as long as we are in this flesh we will sin and sin a lot. Like any Psychiatrist will tell you the first step to solving a problem is first admitting you have one. Yes, Jesus already knows that you are going to sin and what you’re going to do, but He wants to hear you acknowledge you’ve done wrong. The repentance process does not on the other hand give one the license to sin; one can’t live like the devil all week and repent on the weekend only to repeat the process afterwards. God is just to forgive our sins, but only if we ask humbly and have no intention of repeating it.

pray without ceasing, - 1 Thessalonians 5:17

To give an illustration of the renewal process, picture a white heart and the sins of our lives begin to collect on it like a brown and black paper mache until it completely covered; there is no white left. But if we daily acknowledge our sins and ask for forgiveness it allows our heart to be “renewed” like new and white. So today if you have any hidden sins that is interfering with your relationship with God there is no better time than now to do some spring cleaning and reconnect. Don’t wait too long so you won’t have to endure God’s judgment and this applies to me as well. I too have some spring cleaning to do!

There is no justification without sanctification, no forgiveness without renewal of life, no real faith from which the fruits of new obedience do not grow.”~ Martin Luther

If all the sin of all mankind has been placed on Jesus and all sins went to the grave with Jesus, how can we make a collection of them in our minds, souls, or spirits. They were all placed on Jesus, once for all mankind, once for all time.  I know there is not a collection of them in my spirit, because that is the dwelling place of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. No sin can dwell in the same place as they do. Sin covers them over?

Col 2:9
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

We are living under the New Testament, the New Covenant. Our hearts have been renewed, we are new creations with a new reborn spirit. We have a steadfast spirit in our spirits, the Holy Spirit, with all the gifts of the Spirit.

We should be going before the Father, boldly, thanking Him and praising Him for what He has done for us through Jesus. He does not want to hear about our sins because He has already forgot about them, they were all placed on Jesus. That is the best we can offer Him when we go before Him, our sins? We are going to offer Him something He sent His Son to redeem us from? The sins are not ours anymore, they belong to Jesus. Jesus took all sins into His body, the sins of all mankind, for all time.

Any renewing needs to be to the mind, and that renewing is to the Word of God.

Rom 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The mind needs to be renewed, by us. Our zeal and pursuit of the Lord needs to be renewed. Our spirit does not need to be renewed. We need to renew our mind to what is in our spirits.  Confession of sin is turning to the flesh and acknowledging the power sin has in our flesh.  The confession we need to do is confessing Jesus to ourselves and others, praising and glorifying and magnifying the Father, and walking in the power of the Holy Spirit. Get out of this sin conscience of sins.

 Heb 10:2
For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

God speaks renewal and our carnal minds immediately jump to sin, ourselves. God speaks renewal, trying to get people to turn to Him in their pursuit of holiness, and to renew their zeal of pursuing the Lord, and we immediately turn to self and what we can do. That is works, and trying to become worthy because of our works. We are worthy because of what Jesus has done. The Father wants us to be sons and daughters  of God, just like Jesus is the Son of God, and Jesus did not confess any sin. Jesus became sin, with our sin. Now we can come to the Father, spotless at all times, because the Father sees us through His Son Jesus. If we see ourselves sinning, then stop it, repent, turn away from sin, so the blessings of God can come into our lives.
