Biblical contentment
Two sundays ago my pastor preached and mentioned in his sermon:
"Contentment is like a shock absorber that makes life much more bearable".
As someone living in an (outwardly) rich country I'm often amazed at the discontentment I encounter. Materially we do have more than even kings and queens had in the golden olden days - yet, we complain from dawn to dusk. Which makes me think - what is biblical contentment?
"I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. Phil 4:11-12"
Looking into this verse, contentment is... just that. It is not about trying to have as little or as much as possible, it is to live at peace with what I have, be it much or little. For our home is in heaven, not on earth:
"For our citizenship is in Heaven, from which also we are looking for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ (Phil 3:20)"
